Bir Chifa is a shanty town on the outskirts of Tangier, Morocco.
This is probably the poorest and most deprived area of Tangier , where there is no water, electricity, schoolling or proper housing. The conditions are severe, the houses generally made of corregated iron, wooden crates and cardboard.
I have recently become involved with Bir Chifa via my sister who is a board member of tha Association Al Nafae Feminine for developement and Solidarity, set up by Ouazna Ahitor, a woman of pensionable age who has remarkably taken the village under her wing even though she cannot read or write and is indeed in a state of poverty herself.
The Association now helps up to 300 women and children a day, teaching life skills and raising money to provide food, shelter and schooling for the local community.
Although the Sahara Rally 2009 is not raising money for the Association, i, Karl, would like to simply raise the awareness to their plight and if rally crew would like to go to Bir Chifa to get a different perspective on life then this can be arranged.
Any donations that any viewers to this site may want to give to the Association can be given via Scarred4life.
